Birds and Beans coffee!

At some point, I’m going to write a comprehensive summary of my buying habits, which goes something like “you get what you pay for; unless you don’t.” About how some luxury items are worth it, and some are just a waste of money, and everyone is going to draw their line in a different place. About how most good quality products aren’t cheap, but we don’t need to drown ourselves in a sea of Vebelen Goods either.

But for today, I just want to highlight the fact that I’m really happy I buy (some of) my coffee from a company that is focused on preserving bird habitat.

Birds and Beans!

  1. I just realized I had Emilybook bookmarked, and am now catching up on your (fantastic) posts.

It’s great there are coffees, and other goods I’m sure, supporting a variety of causes, and in fact if I needed even more coffee (ha!), I’d try the bird thing too.

We buy most of our coffee—we have a regular subscription delivery—from Grounds & Hounds, whose claim is, “Through the sale of our organic and eco-friendly specialty coffees, we support rescue initiatives and organizations providing a second chance for pups in need of a helping hand. 20% of all Grounds & Hounds profits are deployed to our rescue organizations working to make the second-chance mission a reality.”

We also get a delivery, much less often, from Atlas Coffee Club, which gets coffee from around the world and pays “well above fair trade prices for the beans,” helping to increase the wages of coffee harvesters worldwide.
